Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has warned Nigerians against assuming that the political dynamics witnessed during Saturday’s poll, during the Osun governorship poll, will be replicated in the 2027 general elections.
Oseni claimed it would be delusional for anyone to believe that the circumstances surrounding the Osun poll would automatically determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.
He noted that the outcome of the Osun election should not be treated as a template for predicting what will happen in the next general election, noting that the political and institutional factors at play in 2027 could be significantly different.
He urged Nigerians to pay closer attention to the potential challenges ahead, particularly the influence that federal political power could have on the conduct and outcome of the 2027 polls.
Oseni warned that the level of federal influence allegedly witnessed during the Osun election could be deployed on a much larger scale during the 2027 general elections.
The 2026 Osun governorship election has attracted significant political attention, with its outcome and the events surrounding the poll likely to shape discussions about Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of 2027.
