The Anambra State Government has arraigned eight alleged fake pastors arrested in Onitsha, Awka and other parts of the state.
Media Adviser to the Anambra State Governor, Ejimofor Opara, said the clerics violated the 2025 Homeland Security Law and were brought before the state judiciary in Awka.
Recall that the law under which the alleged fake pastors were arrested came into effect in February 2025.
The law prohibits certain forms of religious practices that are deemed inimical to the public, especially as it pertains to wealth creation.
A year ago, the state government also rounded up some native doctors found promoting get-rich-quick practices. Some have been tried in court and jailed, while others are still undergoing trial.
Opara gave the name of the pastors as arraigned on Friday as Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, is leading the prosecution against the suspects.
