Social media platform, TikTok says over 2 million videos by subscribers were removed from its services in Nigeria between July and September 2024 for violating its Community Guidelines.
The platform noted that 99.1% of the videos were taken down within 24 hours, in fulfilment of its content moderation and user safety policy.
TTikTok revealed the decision in the latest Q3 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
The highest policy violation areas according to the report in Nigeria include Sensitive and Mature Themes, Regulated Goods and Commercial Activities, and Mental and Behavioral Health.
Mental and Behavioral Health policy violations took the lead at 99.9%, with the offending contents removed before any user report.
Sensitive and Mature Themes followed at 99.4%, with the violating videos also discarded before consumers reported them while Regulated Goods and Commercial Activities trailed at 99.1%, even before consumer complaints.
”This violation involves content attempting to defraud or scam users or content marketing prohibited items such as firearms or explosive weapons, the report said.
”TikTok continues to invest in technologies which improve content understanding and assess potential risks, allowing the platform to remove harmful content before it reaches viewers.
”With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2% globally, TikTok is more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it.
”Globally, between July and September 2024, the platform removed over 147 million videos and of these, 118 million were removed through automation.
”In Nigeria, 92.1% of all videos were removed before a community member reported it to TikTok.”
