Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that Nigeria is sitting on a ‘keg of gunpowder’ waiting to explode.

He has now urged the federal government to listen to demands of protesters.

He also warned that fixing term limits for public office holders is not the solution to Nigeria’s problems.

The former president raised the concerns on Friday when members of the national assembly paid him a courtesy call in his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The former president said the youths took to the streets because the government failed to attend to their concerns.

“Like I have warned earlier, we should know that we are all sitting on a keg of gunpowder if we fail to begin to do the right thing.

“For instance, what the youth are demanding is very legitimate and should be listened to, or why should they be denied what rightfully belongs to them?

Speaking on the issue of the bills seeking a single six-year term for the president and governors, and a single day for elections, Obasanjo said the issue is for the leaders to get it right.

”Fixing term limits for public office holders is not the solution rather the mentality of the representatives in the government should change”.
