The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has pledged to mobilise 10 million votes from Nigeria’s education sector for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.
Alausa made the commitment at the inaugural meeting of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee Education Sector Mobilisation Working Group, where he charged members to take the campaign beyond educational institutions and into communities nationwide.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Ikharo Attah, Alausa said the education sector, comprising students, teachers, lecturers, administrators, governing councils, professional bodies and other stakeholders, was strategically positioned to deliver a significant bloc of votes for Tinubu.
He said continuity was necessary to consolidate the reforms of the Tinubu administration, strengthen the economy, attract investment and create greater opportunities for Nigerians.
“Nigeria needs continuity. This country, this President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has changed the fortunes of Nigeria. It is in our interest, and in the interest of the present and future generations, that we elect him to continue the transformative agenda he has embarked upon in the last three years,” he said.
He charged members of the working group to mobilise their respective constituencies and build broad-based support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.
The minister said the reforms in the education sector required sustained implementation, adding that a second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate gains in human capital development and contribute to long-term economic growth.
The working group, chaired by Alausa, has established sub-groups covering universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, teachers, governing councils, technical and vocational education and training, counsellors and other stakeholder groups.
Presidential appointees in the education sector are expected to work with the core committee and sub-groups to coordinate the mobilisation campaign across the country.
Alausa said the objective was to translate the sector’s extensive nationwide reach into a coordinated electoral effort.
“If we work hard, we should be able to mobilise 10 million votes from the education sector alone for Mr. President,” he said.
He urged members to demonstrate commitment and teamwork, stressing that achieving the target would require sustained engagement with stakeholders across the education sector.
