Legendary Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs has died at the age of 84.
The veteran actor, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
His family announced his death on social media, with his son, Olusoji Jacobs, sharing the family’s statement.
His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, also shared the announcement.
In the statement, the family announced his passing with gratitude for a life well lived and fought, describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”
“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo,” the statement said,” the statement said.
The family also appealed to bloggers, social media influencers and members of the public to respect their privacy as they mourn the veteran actor.
“We call on bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time,” the statement added,” the statement added.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues and industry stakeholders, who have remembered the late actor for his dedication, humility and iconic role he played while he was alive.
Olu Jacobs was born on July 11, 1942, and celebrated his 84th birthday just over two months ago.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before beginning his professional acting career in Britain.
Jacobs started his career in Britain, where he appeared in theatre productions, British television programmes and international films.
He later became one of the most recognisable veterans of Nigeria’s film industry and established himself as a prominent figure in Nollywood.
