Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU of the Abia State Command has apprehended a 51-year-old suspected child trafficker, Nnamdi Lazarus, for allegedly keeping six children in his house at Uratta, Aba North LGA, Abia State.
According to the Police Command, the suspect is an indigene of Mbano, Imo State but resides in Uratta Aba, Abia State.
A statement signed by the Police Spokesperson of the Abia Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the six children have been rescued by the Police and safely reunited with their families.
DSP Chinaka gave the names of the rescued children as Nnenna Ogbuogu and Nwanne Ogbuogu, indigenes of Abiriba, Abia State.
She also listed the other rescued children as Amanda Iheke Emmanuella, Destiny Iheke Emmanuel, Anointing Iheke Emmanuel and Ihechi Obasi from Item, Abia State.
“All six rescued children have been safely reunited with their families. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the child trafficking syndicate.
” The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” DSP Chinaka said.
The Command warned there will be no hiding place for criminal elements within the state, and appealed to the Abia public to provide timely and useful information on security concerns to the nearest police station.
