Zenith Bank Plc has strengthened its international presence with the official opening of a new branch in Manchester, United Kingdom, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy.

At the commissioning ceremony, the bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adaora Umeoji, highlighted the institution’s growth journey and paid tribute to its founder, Jim Ovia. She noted that his vision of building a world-class financial institution anchored on innovation, strong corporate governance, and service excellence has positioned Zenith Bank as one of Africa’s most respected banking brands.

Umeoji also acknowledged the role of the Central Bank of Nigeria in implementing reforms that have improved investor confidence and strengthened the financial sector.

Speaking on the significance of the new branch, she described Manchester as a vibrant commercial hub with a rich history in enterprise and global trade. According to her, the city’s diverse economy—spanning manufacturing, engineering, logistics, technology, and consumer goods—makes it a strategic location for the bank to better serve its growing international clientele.

Also addressing the gathering, the Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said the development aligns with Nigeria’s broader objective of attracting investment and strengthening economic ties with global partners.

He emphasized the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, noting that trade, education, and strong diaspora connections continue to drive cooperation between both countries. He added that the Manchester branch would enhance trade financing, boost investment flows, and deepen cross-border financial services, ultimately bringing both economies closer.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included representatives of Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Aisha Rimi, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Oyedele and hosted by Mojibade Sosanya, while music was provided by Johnny Drille.

The event drew an array of high-profile attendees, including the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas; Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo; British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Florence Eshalomi; and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Jude Chiemeka.

Also present were the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi; Zenith Bank Executive Directors Adobi Nwapa and Adamu Lawani; as well as senior government officials, regulators, industry stakeholders, and invited guests from Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
