The National Examinations Council (NECO) has recorded an increase in the number of malpractices in its recently concluded 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) external.

‎Registrar of the Council, Professor Dantani Wushishi, who disclosed this while releasing the results of the examination in Minna, Niger state, said 9,016 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractices as against 6,160 cases that were recorded in 2024.

‎The malpractice rate, according to Prof. Wushishi, stands at 31.7 percent.

‎The Registrar said five supervisors, two from the FCT, one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states, were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting examination malpractice.

‎He also announced that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, but only 95,160 sat for the exam.

‎Of the 95,160 candidates that sat for the examination, 50,785 candidates, representing 53.36% were males, while 44,375 candidates, representing 46.63 percent were females.

‎73,167, representing 78.82% candidates got credit and above in English Language, while 85,256 candidates, representing 91.35% got credit and above in Mathematics.

‎Also, 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26% got five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
