Nigeria’s minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, said an additional 50.4 megawatts has been added to the country’s national grid with the commissioning of a 63 megavolt-ampere and 132/33 kilovolt mobile substation in Eleyele, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Adelabu disclosed this on Thursday during the commissioning of the project pioneered by FGN Power Company in collaboration with Germany’s Siemens Energy.
The minister said the project would be of benefit to households and business owners in Apete, Ologuneru, Sango, Ibadan, and other areas in Oyo State.
He explained that the initiative is part of the government’s plan to contribute an additional 302.4 MW through six mobile stations to the country’s transmission network.
Adelabu added that another 50.4 MW mobile substation is near completion in Federal University of Technology Owerri.
“With today’s commissioning at Eleyele, an additional 50.4 MW is added, bringing the total to six mobile substations, contributing an additional 302.4 MW to the transmission network”, he stated.
In June, the Director General of the Energy Commission, Mustapha Abdullahi, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration added an additional 2000 MW to the national grid.
The country’s electricity generation fluctuated between 4500 MW and N5148 MW for an estimated population of over 250 million people.
