Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has has claimed that Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo was right in asking former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi to seek permission before entering the state.

The minister was in Benin City, for the launch of modern mass transit buses procured by the Edo State government.

He noted that ss a presidential candidate, Obi is a high profile individual and his safety will be questioned if no security is provided by a state government.

Wike recalled that when he was governor of Rivers State, he provided Obi logistics for Obi during his presidential campaign in the state, pointing out that he would have been held accountable if anything happened to Obi while in the state.

The Minister dismissed claims that Okpebholo threatened Obi against visiting the state.
He said: “When I was governor of Rivers state, when Peter Obi was coming to my state, he notified me, and I provided vehicles and logistics for him, because at that level, as a presidential candidate, anything that happens to him will be my fault.

“Governor Okpebholo, the statement you made is correct. Obi must inform you before coming to Edo State.”
