Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and his colleagues have joined retired police officers in protest in Abuja, despite appeals by the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, to exercise patience.

The retirees are demanding improved welfare for themselves and the immediate removal from the contributory pensions scheme, which they claim is discriminatory.

The protesters plan to picket the National Assembly and thereafter move to the Force Headquarters.

The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, had warned against the protest, calling on the aggrieved retirees to return to the table for negotiations.

The PCRC said the protest was an attempt to discredit the Inspector General of Police, IGP and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
