The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man, Ayomide Oluwadamilare, for the alleged murder of his former employer, Mr Kola Adun, and the attempted sale of the deceased’s stolen vehicle.

Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola, who disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspect was caught while trying to sell a Toyota Camry belonging to the deceased in the Ijede area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The case came to light after residents of River Valley Estate in the Ojodu Berger axis raised an alarm over a persistent foul smell emanating from the victim’s residence.

“At approximately 1:00 p.m. on July 7, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer of Ojodu Abiodun Division received a report from Akute’s Mubarak area concerning an offensive odour coming from a house,” the statement read.

“Responding officers proceeded to Ogunmoyero Street within River Valley Estate, forced entry into the premises, and found the decomposing body of Mr Kola Adun on the first floor. The body had visible stab wounds, and bloodstains were observed at the scene.”

According to Odutola, concern had already been mounting the previous day when a close friend who was scheduled to pick Adun for Sunday service discovered the gate locked from the outside and could not reach him via phone. The friend’s worries deepened when Adun’s mobile phone went off, prompting a call to the family and police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Oluwadamilare, who once worked as the deceased’s driver, allegedly broke into the apartment on Saturday, fatally stabbed Adun, and escaped with the victim’s Toyota Camry bearing registration number AAA 193 GC.

The case took a significant turn when the suspect attempted to sell the vehicle to a car dealer in Ikorodu. Suspicious of Oluwadamilare’s account, the dealer notified authorities, leading to the suspect’s prompt arrest at the location.

The remains of the deceased have since been evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for autopsy. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Abeokuta for in-depth investigation and prosecution.
