Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has demanded the creation of state police to check the incessant violent attacks against natives by herdsmen in the state.

The Governor claimed that only the establishment of state police will provide a sustainable solution to the persistent insecurity in the state.

The Governor made the request, Wednesday, while addressing President Bola Tinubu who is in Benue on a condolence visit following attacks in Yelewata by Fulani herdsmen.

The assailants had set homes ablaze burning over 200 local people alive in their homes during the night.

Alia said: “Let me also reiterate my firm support for the establishment of state police as a sustainable solution to the persistent insecurity in our state and perhaps elsewhere.

“Why acknowledge other concerns surrounding its implementation.
I believe the federal government can address these by setting clear state specific guidelines and regulatory frameworks to prevent any potential.”
