The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court on Monday granted former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Godwin Emefiele bail.

Justice Halilu Yusuf granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N2 billion.

Emefiele was arraigned before the judge over his alleged financial misappropriation while on seat as the CBN governor and his connection to 753 duplexes in Abuja, allegedly built with proceeds of graft.

The former CBN governor, who has been in custody for over one year, was arraigned on eight-count charges.

His charges include the illegal acquisition of a housing estate with 753 units, and allegedly misappropriating and managing billions of naira through proxy accounts.

However, Justice Yusuf who granted him bail on Monday, ruled that Emefiele had already received bail for three other ongoing criminal cases and there was no indication that he had violated the conditions of his bail.

He subsequently agreed to release him on bail, adding that he should present two guarantors.

Justice Yusuf said the guarantors must each own property valued at N2 billion and must be located in Asokoro, Maitama, or Wuse 2.
